The Freak Circus: Game Wiki & Detailed Guide

The Freak Circus (TFC for short) is an 18+ dark psychological horror visual novel developed by independent developer Neko Bueno (online alias Garula) using the Ren'Py engine. The game blends yandere themes, twisted romance, rivalry, and violence, centering around a traveling circus named "The Freak Circus of Horrors". Players will experience a choice-driven branching narrative, exploring the boundaries of obsession, manipulation, and survival.

The game is renowned for its beautiful original artwork, dynamic presentation (e.g., screen shaking, animation effects), background music, and sound effects, creating an oppressive yet mesmerizing horror atmosphere. It currently supports English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese (Chinese translation authorized by fan copiklaGrogu).

Story Background (Spoiler-Free)

You are an ordinary café worker, living a quiet and monotonous life. One day, "The Freak Circus of Horrors" arrives in town. On your way to work, you accidentally encounter the silent white-faced clown Pierrot. From this moment on, your destiny is irrevocably changed—Pierrot develops a pathological obsession with you, while his stage partner Harlequin joins the fray, dragging you into a dangerous "love triangle" game.

The story is divided into multiple "Days". The current Demo covers Day 1 + Day 2, introducing the circus's dark secrets, new characters, and branching storylines. Your choices will influence relationships, leading to different endings ranging from escape to total submission, full of psychological tension and thrilling twists.

Character Introduction

The game currently introduces 5 main circus members, each with exquisite character design, multiple expression variations, distinct personalities, and driving plot conflicts.

Protagonist: An unnamed café employee with a customizable name. Gender is neutral (leaning towards a perspective compatible with male yandere romance).

Future updates will expand on Pierrot's Route, Harlequin's Route, Protagonist Endings, and All-Character Endings.

Gameplay Features

Branching Choices

Key dialogues and actions change which scenes you see. The official page counts exactly 1 bad ending in the current build — the Day 1 "Missing" ending. The point where Day 2 stops is not an ending, despite what several guide sites claim. Day 2 also hides a black-tent cutscene you unlock by persistence.

Visual/Audio Effects

Kinetic novel style with dynamic text, flashbacks, screen shakes, and bloody CGs.

Replay Value

Multiple routes and endings encourage replaying to unlock hidden content.

Duration

Demo lasts approximately 1-2 hours; the full version is expected to be significantly longer.

Platform

HTML5 (Play for free in browser), Windows/Mac/Linux/Android APK (~400MB).

Latest Release

(Nov 30, 2025)

Includes full Day 2 content, new characters (Jester/Doctor/Ticket Taker), Blue Tent scenes, etc.

Patches: the December 9, 2025 patch fixed animation stutter in the browser build and a freezing issue in the tents. On February 22, 2026 a revised Simplified Chinese translation shipped, which also repaired a Columbina line that was being cut off.

Development status (checked August 23, 2026): itch.io still labels the public build Prototype v0.2, and Day 3 has no announced release date. The August 21 weekly update confirms that the café dialogue and scene pacing were reworked, interfering choice logic was rebuilt, and Doctor sprites are next; a same-day AMA says beta testing is being prepared. These are development milestones, not a release. Ongoing: Russian, Spanish and Japanese translations have volunteers but no timeline.
